Outcomes
During the testing phase of our project, we went through multiple rounds of adjustments and modifications to refine our final outcome. We wanted to ensure that our environment was best suited for the projection, which involved carefully controlling the lighting conditions. We found that the best results were achieved either in a slightly dimmed room or by using a single source of light after sunset.
To document our final outcome, we chose to work with natural lighting conditions immediately after sunset. We were fortunate to discover an open space outside our studio, D501, that provided us with the perfect amount of natural light to work with our projection. This allowed us to test our prototype in a more realistic environment and get an accurate representation of how the final product would look.
In addition to optimizing the environment, we also tested our prototype with an actual skateboard to ensure that the installation was effective. This was an important step as it allowed us to make necessary adjustments and ensure that the interaction with the installation was seamless and intuitive. By the end of the testing phase, we had refined our prototype to a point where we were satisfied with the final outcome and ready to present it.
Possible developments
Regarding possible future developments, we envision two main areas for expansion: brand and technical support.
Firstly, as a brand Identity, we would like to collaborate with more sports brands like VANS and Converse to promote skateboarding as a serious athletic sport. We aim to start in Singapore, where we can expand the visibility of skateboarding through our brand identity, and then gradually take it to an international level.
Secondly, with more technical support, we can experiment with audio feedback and explore the sounds of a skateboard park to create a more immersive experience that enhances all the user's senses. A bigger team would also allow us to have more resources, time, and counter-effective criticism, leading to more effective development.
Conclusion
It is truly satisfying to witness the successful completion of our project, and it has been an exciting journey to see its evolution from the initial stage to the final stage. Each of us contributed unique skill sets and ideas, which greatly contributed to the success of our project. We worked together to find a balance between our individual concepts, resulting in a cohesive brand story.
Throughout this project, we learned a plethora of soft and technical skills such as effective communication, making design decisions, understanding technical aspects, administrative work, and much more. We realised the importance of considering various factors when creating something for public consumption. Our project enabled us to comprehend the essentials of managing such projects successfully.
In conclusion, we are grateful for the opportunity to work on this project, and it has been a valuable learning experience that will undoubtedly benefit us in our future endeavors.
